Ian is focused towards global conflict resolution, effective humanitarian aid, increasing collaboration and efficiency of stability operations, along with innovative counter violent extremist programing and narratives development.

​He is a subject matter expert of conflict stability, defense, and preventative counter extremism whose skills and knowledge sets combine to deliver sound guidance and advice. His recent work has contributed to future concepts as an advisor and presenter to the NATO Stability Policing Center of Excellence, and as a TEDx speaker on gender based violence victims in conflict and near conflict spaces. He has focused much of his recent collaborations towards ensuring Yezidi young boys, impacted by war torn areas, to receive much needed resources. In this, he has sought to raise awareness about this vulnerable male population through the "Lost Boys of the 21st Century" initiative.
These gaps of services have been identified in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Nigeria, Central African Republic, and Ukraine as a limited set of examples.

Ian is the Founder of the 1st New Allied Expeditionary Force, which is a 21st century non-profit stability operations and peace support organization. They offer global crisis response programs tailored to support the well-being of communities suffering from instability and challenges arising from disaster or conflict.

He started his career in the Canadian Forces serving with The Royal Canadian Regiment. After service, Ian continued to dedicate his career to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of others, and had the honor of serving in a number of Canadian agencies.

Ian is an experienced instructor and college program coordinator in foreign settings, including as subject matter expert and trainer to Organization of American States- Counter Terrorism Capacity Building programs. In addition to his workings with the 1st NAEF, in 2010, he formed Terra Nova Strategic Management and remains active as president. TNSM is a consulting firm based in Ottawa, Canada, providing multidisciplinary services in the counter extremism and security sectors.
